2 years of PTI with the economy

As PTI comes onto two years, I felt like making this post on account of seeing multiple people supporting PML-N for having an allegedly better economy for Pakistan, particularly with allegations present that PTI has done nothing for the economy. So here's a short list of some major achievements done by PTI in contrast to PML-N.
This is by no means a highly comprehensive list, just my opinion on some of the bigger achievements; saving the economy from defaulting, adopting tax reforms, tourism reforms, export reforms among them whilst managing covid and economic stability with relative success.
There are of course a multitude of other factors, successfully avoiding a blacklist from the FATF, macroeconomic reforms, attempts to strengthen the working class; ehsaas programs, Naya Pakistan housing schemes alongside other relief efforts. These are measures in accordance with curtailing the effect of increasing taxation and attempts to abate the economic slowdown that came as a result of forcing an increase in government revenue. Alongside the focus on multiple new hydroelectric dams, industrial cities, reduction of the PM office staff from 552 to 298, 10 billion tree project and an overall renewed interest in renewable energy and green Pakistan. The list is comprehensive.
Pakistan remains on a rocky path, it is not out of the woods yet. Covid-19 has seriously hampered the overall projections, and caused a worldwide economic contraction. Not only that, but there are criticisms that can be attributed to the government as well, as they are not without fault. However, the overall achievements of the government with regards to the economy do present hope for the long-term fiscal policy and development of Pakistan.

The real reasons why Kerala can't even think of seceding from the union

There is so much of chest beating on how Kerala should secede and how it pays on outsize share of tax money that a counter was mandated.
becomes independent.
It needs to pay for things like border security and a full fledged military. That aside it will have to import key raw materials like coal and food materials, and without a central govt subsidising this, best of luck trying to buy it at international commodity market prices.
In addition to this, things that come under the center now, like railways the national power grid, National highway maintenance all will come under the state.
The bankrupt state of Kerala will become an economic basket case.
Just imagine Kerala outside the union and getting hit with a monsoon season like this...ggwp. Without the centre they will literally drown to their deaths.
This whole idea is stupidly retarded.
Furthermore on the whole "le epic HDI" argument,
It has the highest unemployment rate of all major states. Kerala's unemployment rate is 4x the national rate.
It has next to no manufacturing.
It receives in HDI in 15 years that Chennai and Bangalore (not even the entire state) does in less than a year.
It is quite literally bankrupt. Read this. Commercial taxes have actually taken a nose dive after 2012 which indicates declining economic activity.
It has next to no IT services.
Broadly speaking, it's exports total something like $ 2bn annually, and this is mostly Agri commodities, chemicals / rare Earth minerals. Throw in shipbuilding in case it becomes independent and it will still barely make any forex outside of remittances
Why despite having the first IT sez in the country do they export a fraction of what Delhi, Mumbai, Hyd, Bangalore and Chennai export?
Why despite all that literacy have the consistently voted absolutely shit governments that have driven the state finances into the ground?
This Kerala is some superior state myth needs to die, that's the only way it stands a chance of progressing.
The major edge it had was that it's state literacy rate was 30% when the national average was 12%. That allowed it to export labour and basic white collar jobs to the gulf which coincidentally saw the oil boom and needed said labour and white collar jobs.
As a state it has literally nothing going for it as of now. Even look at the much vaunted HDI data and you will see stagnation as other states rapidly catch up.
In 1980, India had an average score of 0.32 on the index (which falls in the low HDI score) with some states like Bihar or UP falling in the sub 0.25 mark which is the lowest possible score. States like Maha and TN also fell in the low HDI region with scores sub 0.300. Kerala was at the 0.55 score which was in the medium HDI category. The differential was almost 43% between the national avg and Kerala. Similar difference between TN / Maha and Kerala.
In 2007-2008, national avg was at 0.513, Kerala at 0.79. Differential being 36%. Maha and TN at 0.57 and the difference here was down to 28%.
In 2015, Kerala was at 0.71, National avg at 0.60. Differential being 16% or 1/3rd what it was in 1980. Maha & TN at 0.66 so the difference here being 8%.
Even the much reviled (by mellus) Gujarat was at 0.52 in 2008 (differential at 35%) vs in 2015 where the Differential is 15%
At this rate, industrialised states like Maha, TN & Guj will have better HDI than Kerala within this decade. Not just that but a whole host of states like Haryana, HP, Karnataka all will either catch up or leave behind Kerala in the HDI stakes within this decade.
Even the "BIMARU" states are slowly catching up.
The Differential between MP and Kerala in 1990 was something like 70%, in 2005 this was at 55% and in 2015 this is at 33%. .
Why is the rest of India (for the most part) progressing while Kerala is stagnant? Because these states have increasing revenue profiles which means more to spend on the social sector while the gulf remmitances haven't really kept up and are predicted to actually drop, and they even actually dropped a full 11% between 2014 and 16 and is only now inching towards 2013-14 levels. With immigration dropping and the gulf economies slowing down this problem is not going to go away anytime soon.
I think I have made my case pretty black and white. Unless Kerala gets it's act together, it's only going to get worse while India overall moves ahead. Whining about "muh beef Aryan Invasion HDI" is not going to be able to sustain it's economy. Lol, this is a state that imports 70% of it's power from outside the state and whose SEB was (till project UDAY) so bankrupt that it couldn't even pay it's employees and they want to secede? Best of luck with that noise. No power, no jobs, increased spending on defense, everything from coal to refined oil will need to be imported, with no matching exports would mean a ruinous trade deficit

MEDICALCHAIN REVIEW

A lot of people are talking about this project and as a potential investor i decided to run some checks on it and see if it's worth. Everyone is pumped about it but after a closer look I'm not sure it's worth its price. Therefore let's have a look at the facts :
Medicalchain.com LTD
The company was incorporated on 28/06/2017 under the name MEDICALCHAIN.IO LTD as a private company limited by ordinary shares.
Three directors are appointed: Mr. Mohammed Tayeb, Mr. Abdullah Dafir Albeyatti and Mr. Bara Mustafa.
The initial shareholdings (total of 999) are split in 3 equal parts:
1/3 (333) owned by Mr. Abdullah Dafir Albeyatti
1/3 (333) owned by Mr. Bara Mustafa
1/3 (333) owned by XL CAPITAL VENTURES LTD (owned by Mohammed Tayeb and Omar Tayeb)
At 24/07/2017 the number of shares is increased to 1332, with XL CAPITAL VENTURES LTD holding 666 ordinary shares.
At 13/08/2017 XL CAPITAL VENTURES LTD cease to be a shareholder, with MR Mohammed Tayeb now holding the 666 shares previously held by XL Capital.
At 14/08/2018 MEDICALCHAIN.IO LTD becomes MEDICALCHAIN.COM LTD
Below you can find a bit about every member of the team starting with the top dogs.
MOHAMMED TAYEB :: Director
MR MOHAMMED TAYEB description taken from medicalchain.com.
Mr. Mohammed Tayeb is a Partner at Hearn Capital Limited. Mr. Tayeb co-founded ReadyCache. In 2010, he headed up the development side of morethan.com. During his time there, Mr. Tayeb architected and developed a system to drive down online fraud, saving its over £40 million. Prior to that, he ran a boutique consultancy business in the field of mobile web and application development. Together with his brother and Co-Founder, they own over eight games and utility applications on the Apple and Google Play apps market, with over 10 million downloads. Mr. Tayeb is an internet entrepreneur, investor, and founder of several technology and e-commerce start-ups. As well being a Partner in Hearn Capital, he is also a Non-Executive Director on the board of Salic. Mr. Tayeb specializes in bringing together technological efficiencies to the business world. He has a degree in e-commerce from Brunel University and an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford.
I’ve done an extensive background check and noticed that Mr Mohammed Tayeb has had his fingers in many pies since 2010 being appointed director in and out of more than 15 companies. I am not sure if I would trust him with my money as it looks like he cant commit to something for a longer period of time.
Below you can find part of his work history:

Pepperstone acquired 123FX.COM LTD what is now its UK subsidiary from Mohammed Tayeb, who alongside his broker Omar Tayeb established an FCA regulated shell with plans to launch a retail forex brokerage called 123FX.com. The business was never launched, and instead was sold to Pepperstone in late 2015.
Pepperstone has suspended trading for clients in its UK subsidiary as the company is making some changes to its management structure and processes, and bringing on some additional resources in its UK office. To comply with its FCA obligations Pepperstone has had to temporarily suspend trading in the UK until all of the changes are complete and the additional resources are in place.

** Mr. Abdullah Dafir Albeyatti :: Director**
Enthusiastic doctor with a wide range of skills and interests. Currently completing my general practice training in Leeds. Previous surgical trainee in the London Deanery. My ambition is to continue improving as a doctor and to develop myself in other fields of medicine and aesthetic training.
He is also the founder of dischargesummary.co.uk. The website is described as a website designed to streamline and lessen the work load placed on junior doctors by standardising the content of discharge summaries produced when a patient is discharged from hospital. This platform has allowed hospital departments to establish quality assurance and accurately produce reliable discharge summaries to effectively commute between hospital and community medicine.
I checked the website and 3 out of 6 features are under development. The site is now redirected to https://ds.medicalchain.com/
Mr. Bara Mustafa :: DirectoCTO
There is no mention of Mr Bara Mustafa on the mediclchain.com which is weird as he is one of the directors and shareholder. It looks like Mr Bara occupation is CTO, which surely would be of interested to the public. Mr Bara is also a OwneDirector of ENETIDEAS LTD since 2010 rendering services as IT Consultant.
https://www.enetideas.com :: the website is not functional, none of the products links are working.
Jay Povey :: Blockchain developer at medicalchain
His introductory linkedin line :
Self taught programmer, programming for 7+ years. BA(Hons) from Buckinghamshire New University. Since January I joined Medicalchain to help create a world class blockchain platform for electronic health records. Previously worked on forex trading algorithm using deep learning / pattern recognition techniques. I have had a keen interest in blockchain technology over the past 2 years. I have been learning the ins and outs of the technology and Im very excited about the future of blockchain. I see great potential for revolutionizing the way businesses are run.
He started coding for Medicalchain in 2017 previously working for 2 years for one of Mohammed companies ReadyCache which was dissolved.
I’m not sure about his experience developing “on forex trading algorithm” as at the previous company ReadyCache they were “building software that is making a difference to webmasters and large companies. We accelerate our customers’ websites, save our customers money and enhance user experience”
Before ReadyCache he worked for a college as an IT technicial and e-learning advisor.
Also I’m not sure what to make out of his facebook profile, he comes across a bit weird. Also on one of his facebook posts he was asking where you can buy bitcoin in may 2017 but on his summary : “I have had a keen interest in blockchain technology over the past 2 years. I have been learning the ins and outs of the technology and Im very excited about the future of blockchain”
https://www.facebook.com/jaypov
Robert Miller :: Director Of Business Development
Looks like his CV is somehow better than the rest, again worked alongside Mohammed at Goodshaw Capital for 1 year. Freelanced a few blockchain projects so I would say he is the one who will drive the project as longs as the money are coming in.
Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/bertcmiller
Natalie Furness :: Communication Director
She has a background in healthcare industry, namely working as a physiotherapist since 2010. She also lectured for Physiotherapy and Sports Exercise Scientist students at Birmingham University and currently working as a project manager for a company offering solutions to the occupational health sector.
The rest of the team occupies either associates or consultants positions for a short period of time 2-3 months.
To sum it up : the initial £5000 pre-ICO investment is way way exaggerated based on the fact that there is nothing to show for at the present moment, just ideas. Mr Mohammed has started 15+ companies and most of them are dissolved which doesn't sound very promising. On top of that he now owns half the company whereas initially the company was split in thirds. Their CTO is not mentioned anywhere on the website but he is a shareholder in the company.
I would not recommend investing in the project right now and I would wait to see if the project would ever gain traction and materialize.

What is WaykiChain?

WaykiChain is a block public chain focusing on blockchain technology development and related operations. WaykiChain has positioned itself as an infrastructure that is based on both Ethereum and Blockchain, intending to trigger a collective growth of different industries by presenting an enterprise solution.

Determined to build a world-class decentralized platform and ecosystem, WaykiChain launched the first smart-contract-based game prediction DApp in May 2018 with over 130,000 install volume, token WICC listed in 100+ exchanges, peaking at $3, community members over 300K, is believed to be innovating a new business model in the new era.
WaykiChain, a team focused on blockchain industry’s foundation and application development, now consisting of nearly 70 people, with core members from world-renowned companies such as Alibaba, Tencent, Morgan Stanley and Intel, is hoping to ultimately achieve an ecosystem that everyone can participate in the building and share the results.

Where is WaykiChain Heading?

The future of WaykiChain is a big community-driven public chain ecosystem. WaykiChain aims to build a decentralized application platform that can provide users with complete on-chain smart contract system. Anyone can realize their business ideas on WaykiChain and develop their own DApp, and build their own brands.
WaykiChain takes decentralized prediction, assets trading and forex trading as entry industries to expand markets in the early stage. After accumulating plenty of application users and developers, WaykiChain will gradually perfect its upper blockchain applications.

WaykiChain’s Technology

Consensus Mechanism
Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) is a consensus algorithm maintaining irrefutable agreement on the truth across the network, validating transactions and acting as a form of digital democracy. Delegated through token holders’ vote, ledgers nodes will package all the transactions in the block and get corresponding reward. DPOS can maximize token holders’ interests and network performance, meanwhile minimize the maintenance and operation costs.
WaykiChain adopts DPoS, which is the most adaptive consensus mechanism for developing and operating applications on chain. The block is successively generated by 11 ledger nodes. Every 10 seconds, a new block will be generated on WaykiChain. Verified by WaykiChain mainnet operation, the transaction confirmation speed can reach 1000+tps.
Vote Mechanism
WaykiChain adopts DPOS consensus mechanism with 11 ledger nodes. When a block is generated, a node is elected with the most votes according to random perturbation algorithm from the 11 nodes. Then ledger node gains all of the transaction fee in its ledger block. Users can get proportionate votes by locking their WICC. Every node can be cast for 11 candidates at most. Every voted user will be awarded proportionate interest. When users’ corresponding accounts’ votes changes, the interest from voting will be received automatically. The first year’s rate of interest is 5% and it will decrease 1% annually during the following years. Finally, the annual rate of interest will be fixed at 1% permanently.
Smart Contracts
WaykiChain is a smart contract platform that supports Turing devices. These smart contracts can help in a variety of real-world applications including copyright issues, decentralized exchanges and asset problems. It adopts DPOS consensus mechanism, sets up 11 voting nodes, and generates a new block every 10 seconds. According to detailed calculation by WaykiChain team, currently, the confirmed transaction speed can reach 1000+tps.
WaykiChain’s smart contract can be built using the programming language Lua. Lua was developed in the early 1990s and has an extensive developer community. It has been used in desktop development, web development and the Internet of Things. It also is one of the easiest programming languages and hence it provides an incentive for developers to code on WaykiChain’s platform.
Sidechain
The most popular smart contract cryptocurrency Ethereum, failed when Cryptokitties were released. Ethereum’s network was unable to handle the massive influx of users. Thus, scalability remains a huge problem. Fortunately, WaykiChain has a feature known as sidechains which can deal with huge amount of users. Applications built on WaykiChains will have their own sidechains and they are not linked in any way to each other.
WaykiChain Ecosystem Development System
WaykiChain ecosystem development system is driven and co-developed by three parties: WaykiChain core developers, open source community developers and business developers. In the decentralized system, WaykiChain team will provide technical standards and community contribution incentives to ensure that the entire ecosystem moves forward as a whole. On the basis of the underlying public chain, plug-ins, and smart contracts, business developers are able to develop applications efficiently and build their own brands with blockchain’s credit endorsement.
WaykiChain plans to establish Technology Research Academy to gather a group of outstanding developers with decentralized blockchain beliefs. WaykiChain will provide underlying technology support and standards. Developers in the academy can free communicate, learn from each other and co-develop a fully decentralized community.
Ecosystem Layered Architecture
WaykiChain technology stack consists of four layers: the core node layer, the wallet node layer, the application platform layer, and the DApp application layer. Any developer can choose which layer to start development based on their own development capability, business needs, and application flexibility needs. WaykiChain core technology team is committed to providing the develop-friendly interfaces of each layer and improving the technical documentation to help the community better build the ecosystem.

How Does WaykiChain Work?
WaykiChain uses a DPoS consensus mechanism with eleven accounting nodes. The annual rate of return is 5% for the first year, with a 1% increase with every year that goes by. Each time a block is created, an accounting node is randomly associated. The accounting node gains all of the transaction fees in its accounting block. Users can earn interest by locking WaykiChain coins. The interest is automatically determined each time the votes for the corresponding user account change.
The terms of betting are triggered by the initiator through smart contract transactions. Users can initiate various betting contract transactions, all of which can be searched and identified in the block browsers. When the betting is over, the bet initiation will publish the final results and the gaining will be then shared accordingly. In short, the betting revenue is automatically issued to the user’s wallet after the betting results are displayed.
The smart contract provided by the platform makes it possible for asset initiations to create dividend sharing rules. These rules are only triggered by various conditions. Hence, the final price of the assets in circulation will be determined by the market’s behavior towards the object in the transaction.

WaykiChain Applications

Token System
Waykichain Token, WICC is a token only used and circulated in WaykiChain Wallet DApp. WICC itself does not have any FIAT characteristics. By consuming WICC as a kind of fuel, users can use applications on WaykiChain; by locking their WICC for a certain period of time, users can share the revenue from WICC Lock Revenue Sharing Plan; and by voting for effective and stable accounting nodes, users can earn related interest. WICC can be obtained by participating in the lock plan, by accounting, voting, and subscription, or by trading with other holders. This means WICC will be listed on lots of exchanges and traded with other cryptocurrencies, thus WICC also has trade value.
WaykiChain Block Explorer
WaykiChain official block explorer is a data display system for WaykiChian applications, which displays the WICC transfer and transaction records, account balances, prediction games transactions, and payout results according to application data on the blockchain. All data is open and transparent and inherently irreversible.
WICC Lock & Revenue Sharing Plan
In order to reward all community supporters and provide a channel for application operators to make retribution to community, WaykiChain launched WICC Lock & Revenue Sharing Plan. Application operators can provide a portion of the proceeds to the community members to encourage their contribution to the entire public chain, and to motivate the community to continuously improve the public chain as a more robust underlying system. Investors can lock their own WICC, as a way of showing long-term optimism about the project, to get a certain amount of revenue.
Investors can lock a certain number of mainnet WICC through the entrance in WaykiChain DApp. During the lock period, this part of WICC cannot be traded, transferred, or consumed as transaction fee. When the lock period expired, WICC will be automatically unlocked and become tradable. During the lock period, investors will receive WICC revenue at the end of each month. The amount of each investor’s WICC revenue is related to his/her WICC lock volume and duration, total WICC revenue generated during the period, and the total WICC lock volume and duration of all investors participating in the lock plan during this period. Specific calculating formula is as follows:
WICC Lock revenue Calculation Formula:
Each investor’s daily WICC revenue = Each investor’s lock index / The sum of each investor’s lock index * Total WICC revenue that day
Each investor’s lock index = Each investor’s WICC lock volume * Time index * Volume index

Time Index Table
Decentralized App
The first smart contract based application delivered by WaykiChain’s team is the WaykiChain decentralized betting application. In this application, the smart contract will assign a time duration in which the user can engage in the betting process. All the conditions related to betting will be given. When a bet is finished, the contract will release the results. The smart contract will then reward the winners.
This DApp was launched in May 2018, attracting over 130,000 users to download and bet and has been upgraded to V2.1 ever since. The latest product WaykiBet DApp V2.5 is planned to launch in November along with a new WaykiChain wallet.
WaykiBet V2.5 enables a new feature that everyone can be a bookmaker. With the authoritative event data and services provided by WaykiChain DApp, user even without any technical or product background can build a bet in simply one-click. And at the end of the game, WaykiBet will automatically call the smart contract to calculate the bet results and deliver payouts, without any manual participation.
Besides, WaykiBet V2.5 has exempted the betting fee through the structure optimization and allows the player to participate in the betting directly after creating a new wallet without activation to ensure users outside of the cryptocurrency industry can be involved in the easiest manner.
WaykiTimes Wallet
The new WaykiChain wallet, named as WaykiTimes will retain the original wallet functions, such as Lock Revenue Sharing and node voting. The newly added “Forum” gathers the community of WaykiChain and blockchain together, will become an ecology of open communication. Meanwhile it will has a “News” section to meet different users’ needs. In the future, WaykiTimes will implement WaykiChain token economy to encourage the community members.

FAQ:

What is WICC? How to Buy WICC?
WICC is the token launched by WaykiChain. In order to buy WaykiChain (WICC), we recommend you to buy some BTC or ETH (the highest volume trading pairs) from an exchange that accepts them. Then, you will have to find a marketplace that sells WICC in exchange for the aforementioned cryptocurrencies. We recommend you to buy WICC at AEX or Huobi Exchange (AEX has already supported WICC mainnet migration, Huobi will support the migration in November, 2018). For more information on this matter, you can visit CoinMarketCap.
When it comes to storing your WICC coins, it’s recommended that you use the official WaykiChain wallet. By consuming the tokens, you can also use various applications on WaykiChain.
What is the use of WICC?
WICC is a token used and circulated in WaykiChain Wallet DApp. WICC itself does not have any FIAT characteristics. By consuming WICC as a kind of fuel, users can use applications on WaykiChain; by locking their WICC for a certain period of time, users can share the revenue from WICC lock plan; and by voting for effective and stable accounting nodes, users can earn related interest. WICC can be obtained by participating in the lock plan, by accounting, voting, and subscription, or by trading with other holders. WICC has been listed on over 100 exchanges and trading with other cryptocurrencies for almost 1 year, thus WICC also has trade value.
What are WaykiChain’s advantages as a public chain 3.0?
There are three different types of blockchain: public chain, consortium chain, and private chain. Public chain refers to the consensual blockchain that any individual or team can read and send transactions to, and obtain valid confirmation. Public chain, also known as the non-license chain, is totally open to the whole network that any node can access or leave at any time without any permission. As a public chain of blockchain 3.0, WaykiChain has the advantages of high speed, high stability and flexibility, and low handling fee, providing rich development tools and perfect development environment for worldwide developers. Adopting DPoS consensus mechanism, sidechain technology and other technologies, WaykiChain can process 1000+ transaction requests per second. Relying on its strong strength of underlying technology and innovation, WaykiChain can effectively support high-traffic application scenarios and realize the landing of WaykiChain ecological applications.
What is WaykiChain decentralized betting application?
WaykiChain decentralized betting application is the first smart contract application launched by WaykiChain team. Each betting is triggered by the application developer via a smart contract. During the period specified in the contract, the users can initiate betting transaction, and all betting records can be traced on the blockchain browser and can never be tampered with. The smart contract will automatically reward the winners based on the final result. WaykiChain will use smart contract to automatically execute the game rule on its public chain. Instead of relying on trust between people, WaykiChain betting application adopts trust among machines to save credit costs, and guarantees full compliance with the rules setting. Besides WaykiChain Official, the developers of the decentralized applications can be any other third-parties. WaykiChain welcomes all developers to join.
What is WaykiChain Address?
WaykiChain address is a 34-bit string consisting of English letters and numbers that may look like digital gibberish. My WaykiChain address WXv6xP8yVW4PkZ3DPvxqfBtfz7Bof1RJHm, as an example, looks like this. All transfer records for each WaykiChain address can be found through the blockchain explorer. The address is a personal WaykiChain account like your bank account number. Anyone can transfer WICC to you via your WaykiChain address. How do I get my own WaykiChain address then? You can download a WaykiChain Wallet on WaykiChain official website, or register one on trading platforms. Each user’s WaykiChain address is unique. It should be noted that each WaykiChain wallet can only create one address, therefore the wallet mnemonics must be kept carefully.
What consensus mechanism does WaykiChain adopt?
WaykiChain adopts DPOS consensus mechanism, a new algorithm to guarantee the security of cryptocurrency network. DPOS consensus mechanism can offset the negative effects of centralization through implementing technology-based democracy, and maximize the effectiveness of the public chain through nodes accounting. DPOS can be understood as giving the token holders a key to open the voting rights corresponding to their tokens, instead of giving them a shovel to mine. DPOS can maximize the profitability of the token holders, minimize the cost of network security, maximize the efficiency of network, and minimize the cost of network operation. WaykiChain has 11 accounting nodes in total. The nodes are generated by the token holders’voting. If nodes are making trouble or cannot account normally, the token holders can change their votes, so that there will be other nodes to replace to ensure that the public chain can be operating normally.
What is WaykiChain mainnet migration?
WaykiChain (WICC) mainnet migration is the process of replacing the previous Ethereum-based token ERC20 TOKEN with WaykiChain mainnet token. WaykiChain public chain, through several months of testing and rigorous evaluation from the exchange platforms after its release, has been fully proven to operate efficiently and stably. Mainnet migration marks that WaykiChain public chain is actually putting into use. After the mainnet migration, various applications and developments based on WaykiChain can be launched, and the service period of WaykiChain public chain truly starts. The dividend mechanism, voting mechanism, gas consumption, and accounting fees on WaykiChain ecosystem are all completed by the mainnet token. The previous ERC20 tokens do not have these functions. By the end of June 26th, AEX Exchange, CEO Exchange, and Bying Wallet have supported WICC mainnet migration. There will be more exchanges and wallets supporting the migration in the future. Please follow WaykiChain’s Wechat official account for more details.
Are there any requirements or restrictions for developing projects on WaykiChain?
WaykiChain’s code is completely open. WaykiChain welcomes third parties worldwide to develop, carry and operate various application products on WaykiChain, and finally form a diversiform public chain community ecology. WaykiChain is happy to provide public chain technology support for any individuals or third parties. Applications developed and operated by third parties, based on WaykiChain public chain, need to comply with local laws and policies. Only after obtaining related licenses, permits or qualifications required by local laws and policies, developers and operators can launch and operate their applications on WaykiChain. Because of blockchain public chain’s globality, anonymity, open code, and the limitation of our ability, WaykiChain Official cannot judge the identity of third parties, nor have the ability and right to verify, supervise, control or interfere the third parties. Therefore, third parties should bear responsibility of their own actions.
What is WaykiChain Block Explorer?
WaykiChain Block Explorer is a system that displays all transaction information on WaykiChain and provides visualized track services. Technically, a block explorer works by scanning the block into the database server and then setting up a Web access service. Users only need to import the transaction hash to check whether the transaction has been packaged and confirmed. From the point of product, block explorer is more suitable to be called as asset explorer, which provides asset certification for users so that they don’t have to visually identify or manually analyze the transactions themselves. The block explorer also provides statistics of blocks and transactions, helping users to directly understand the activity of the blockchain. The statistics can also be translated into various indexes for investors to understand the project. To track the transactions, users can search relevant information on WaykiChain official website through WaykiChain wallet address, transaction hash or block height.

I'm stuck about the right place and time to enter trades

Hi Everyone,
I've been in Forex on and off for several years, with numerous demos and two live accounts. I'd like some advise, but first I'll tell you all a bit so you'll know where I am in my Forex journey.
1) After doing some courses to learn, My first live account was with etoro in 2012. Demo was excellent but the real account was a disaster. I think etoro screwed my account because I was literally sitting and staring at my screen when 8 different trades opened for themselves, and in a couple minutes wiped 80% of my money. This literally happened in about 5 minutes and I wasn't even touching my computer to do anything.
I have never in my life opened 8 trades at once, which is why I suspect that they screwed me. As I said this was in 2012.
2) My second live account was with Hotforex in 2013. Demo was going well and I made a live account after.
I was successfully making small trades with small profits mostly using 3sma system combined with trendlines and some support and resistance levels.
Then a family tragedy happened, and I needed money, so I withdrew money from my live account and closed it.
3) From 2014 - 2017/ early 2018 I've mostly been on the move and off the grid (for personal reasons). Now I'm back in the regular world, need something to do and I'm looking at Forex again.
You may ask why I'm considering Forex and not a regular job? Because I have a large number of health problems including chronic pain, which means I don't have enough strength for a regular job. Since my mind is good, I figured Forex could work, since I actually did it for a while in the past. I'm not looking to get rich, if I make $ 300 a month that's good enough for me.
4) For the last 2 months I've been trading a demo with Oanda. It's not going to well. I find that the same strategy I was using back in 2013 is not working anymore. Mostly because the setup for such trades is idealistic and doesn't happen often.
5) I've been experimenting with price movements and I am now at a stage where I can more or less predict which way the market will go. However this leaves me with 2 problems.
A) The price does move where I expect it to, sometimes in 5 minutes, and sometimes in 5 hours. This also depends on the timeframe used.
B) Because of the uncertainty of time in (A), I am having confusion on where and when to actually enter my trades in to the market.
I don't know of the last part makes sense to you all. But if it does, please offer some advise or links that you may have.
Thanks!

Once or twice can be coincident or accident. Even economic theories aren't as predictable or have such high fidelity as this is turning out to be. Whatever be the base reason. There is most definitely a pattern and simply the existence of a General Election at regular intervals is not enough to explain this. A pattern in economics that stretches over decades is considered very significant. People can make Millions off such things, in all likely they are already, and maybe that is part of that base reason, maybe.

3 in 1 post: DNA, Paedophiles and the 'Trade War' with China

DNA
DNA is not a carrier of genetic inheritance, the original experiment designed to prove this assertion was flawed
All of the predictive science that we do with DNA (race testing, paternity testing, disease prediction, forensics) is performed with the bacteria on our bodies and in our mucus membranes.
Gut bacteria can cause, predict and prevent rheumatoid arthritis
Quick blood test for gut bacteria can predict risk of death and heart problems in patients
Pancreatic cancer: could bacteria in our mouth help us detect this deadly cancer sooner?
Paedophiles
Just as there are:
There is NOBODY in Illuminati jails for paedophillia.
Why would they jail people, who practice the same behaviour they support?
China
Exports are a cost and imports are a benefit. The attempt by economists to pretend that the opposite is true, is designed to hide the reality of Illuminati slave colonies like China.
China constantly devalues their Yuan, not in order to 'destroy American manufacturing' but to keep Illuminati overtime going in preparation for the BIG BANG.
Human cattle are reliant on distractions like iPhones, TV etc. This is why Chinese leaders, who do nothing but take orders from the grand master Patrick Stewart/Ron Paul, devalue the Yuan in the forex markets. To force their citizens into literal slavery!
Politics is much easier to comprehend when you replace 'benevolent politicians' with 'traitorous Illuminati puppets'.

MOHAMMED TAYEB :: Director
MONSTER TECHNOLOGIES LTD :: Director since 9 January 2017 :: Active - no information found
HEARN CAPITAL LIMITED :: Director since 21 January 2016 :: Active
The company is owned from background by Influential (Holdings) Limited owning more than 50% of shares with a total equity of £1.7 mil.
Basically Influential Holding has lent Hearn Capital 1.2 million to invest in different companies. To me it looks like Mohammed has no skin in this as Influential Holdings Limited is owned by Mr Andrew Richardson and Mr John Edward Simpson.
GOODSHAW CAPITAL MANAGEMENT LTD :: Director since 6 January 2016 :: Company still active Dormant company aka not carrying any business activity
DYNISTICS LIMITED :: Director since 03/03/2015 :: Company still active
Acquisition of Dynistics https://www.dynistics.com/ :: a software company that Hearncapital bought in 2015 which counts colleges, NHS Foundation Trusts and recruitment agencies as clients.

Pepperstone Limited :: Director 13/02/2017 – 22/06/2017 :: Resigned (former 123FX.COM LTD)

Mr. Bara Mustafa :: DirectoCTO
Natalie Furness :: Communication Director

Brazil's Recession and its Effect on the World Economy

After China, it is Brazil's turn to deliver bad news to the markets.
The South American country's economy entered a recession after reporting two consecutive quarters of decline in growth. The recent announcement is a technicality: Brazil's economy has been suffering for some time now.
The country was part of the BRIC – Brazil, Russia, India and China – grouping, which was supposed to usher in a new world economic order through prolific growth rates in the coming years. For some time at the turn of this decade, that seemed to be true in Brazil's case. The country racked up impressive growth rates on the back of a boom in commodities and energy exports. Even in the face of conservative analyst predictions, the Brazilian government maintained that it would achieve average growth rates of 4.5% in the coming years.
But, Brazil's economy has unraveled since 2013. A complex cocktail of rising inflation, droughts and corruption scandals has engulfed the country, and it has become the worst performer among BRIC markets. (See also: Understanding The Risk In The BRICS.)
So, what happened?

[Graph] Krugman's "Bitcoin is not a stable store of value" debunked.

I decided to utilize historic values to examine Krugman's statement:
To be successful, money must be both a medium of exchange and a reasonably stable store of value. And it remains completely unclear why BitCoin should be a stable store of value.
No one will deny that Bitcoin is currently extremely volatile. This is not an examination of that point. This is focused purely on the question of whether, historically, Bitcoin has proven to be a good store of value. No one can predict the future, so the best we have is historical data.
This is particularly of interest to me, give the recent tumble in Bitcoin price, as well as recent reports of the third worst collapse of the dollar in the past decade.
Methodology
To examine the quality of Store of Value, I examined the historical prices of seven different assets. I envisioned a buyer of the asset purchasing it on a given day, and holding it for some length of time (X), ranging between one day and about 3.5 years (which is all the data we have for Bitcoin).
The measurement is this: if you choose a random day to buy the asset, and you buy it at the mid-point price that day, and hold it for X days, what is the probability that it will still have 100% of its value after X days. It seems like a reasonable assumption is that an asset that is a good store of value would perform well in this scenario, and retain 100% of its value a high percentage of the time.
The seven assets were:
  1. Bitcoin purchased on Bitstamp. Data provided by BitcoinCharts.
  2. Bitcoin purchased on Mt. Gox. Data provided by BitcoinCharts.
  3. Bitcoin Freely Exchangeable: For this measurement, I used Mt. Gox prices as mentioned above, until May 13, 2013 (the day before the US Government seized funds), and Bitstamp prices since then. This is an attempt to eliminate the odd pricing on Mt. Gox due to the withdrawal challenges.
  4. The Dow Jones FXCM Dollar Index, data provided by Google Finance. The data for this index was available going back to 4/18/2011. It's an index of the dollar, presumably comparing to other currencies. (This may be mislabeled, calling it a fund. Not sure.)
  5. Spider Gold Shares GLD, an ETF for Gold. Data provided by Yahoo Finance. This data goes back to 11/18/2004.
  6. Spider Gold Shares GLD, for the period that Bitcoin has been traded. Same data source as #5, but a subset of the data.
  7. The US Dollar (1914-2013), reflecting the US monthly inflation rates. This data was provided by usInflationCalculator.com.
In all cases, I used the average of the daily high and the daily low, when available. In the case of the Dollar (1914-2013), I used monthly inflation rates.
In all cases, I set the purchase date to one of the days that the asset was traded. In the case of the Dollar (1914-2013), I utilized the first of the month. And I set the ending valuation date as the next time the asset traded, after X days elapsed. In the case of the Dollar (1914-2013), this would be the first of some future month, after X days had passed.
Results
Here's the Graph.
The best performing asset was buying Bitcoins on Bitstamp. In all cases historically, if you held the asset for 274 days, the asset was still worth 100% of your original investment.
Mt. Gox and the Freely Exchangeable Bitcoin measurements were similar: After 622 days, 100% of the time, your original invested value was retained.
The Dollar fund (index, actually) underperformed all Bitcoin options, when measuring periods less than 243 days. But for periods of between 471 days and 1033 days, 100% of the time, the dollar fund retained its complete value. (No data for periods longer than 1033 days).
The Gold ETF underperformed Bitcoin, whether you looked at the period of Bitcoin being on the market, or the life of the ETF.
And, no surprise, the dollar as measured by inflation, came in dead last. In the past 100 years, it has only retained its value month-over-month about 15% of the time. And the longer you held it, generally, the worse off you were.
All data is available at the sources above, and the computations are available.
The graph of the results is licensed for you to use widely with attribution.
I hope this helps when you are talking to the Krugmans of the world.
(Edit: it's -> its)

A few thoughts - Thursday, August 14, 2014

Good afternoon! A few thoughts for lunch today:

Buttercoin development team fired

As you can see at https://github.com/buttercoin/buttercoin/issues/71, all developers for buttercoin, an open source exchange project that begin in the wake of the April 2013 crash, were fired yesterday. There is little explanation for the firing, but this should come as no surprise.
Buttercoin has been vaporware for a year, and for good reason. A few days after Mt Gox caused that crash, some people decided that they were going to create a "better" exchange. They were correct in recognizing that it isn't that technically difficult or groundbreaking to create a bitcoin exchange, but they were completely irrational in believing that they could create an open-source exchange when the primary cost for exchanges is dealing with banks and lawyers.
The project was later granted funding by venture capitalists, but now appears to have failed.

Bottom continues to fall out

The bottom continues to fall out of the market. I remain bearish, as I have for a month, and have earned about 25% in the flair game. I think it became clear on July 24, judging by the perfect timing of the first fall in this bear market, that something needed to happen by that time or else people would start to lose faith. My opinion is that the current situation is a continued crisis of confidence. More and more people will decide to cut their losses and get out. This situation is more concerning than the Chinese bans from earlier in the year, because people will find a way around bans to do things they want to do. For example, while I abhor the idea, prostitution thrives even though it is illegal in most areas.
There's a great article that discusses why companies like Pantera are incorrect in their indices of bitcoin growth, and I agree with the author. The argument is that pageviews of bitcoin articles are not relevant to price growth. People who read Wikipedia are trying to find out more about bitcoins, but apparently many of them are disinterested by what they find. This would be in line with my idea that the only way that bitcoins fail is because, for whatever reason, people don't find them useful.
There is some interest about how the Chinese wikipedia article on bitcoin has seen a tremendous increase in visitors this week, but viewers does not equal buyers.
I still hold that transaction volume is the fundamental indicator that people should watch to see when things are going to turn around. If transaction volume increases, then the price needs to go up to support the increased volume.
Falling prices could be a self-sustaining cycle. If the price drops to $200 at the next low, then the ETFs that are being evaluated will have less of a chance at being accepted. It would be very easy at that point for governments to say that bitcoins are not a real asset, that their days are numbered, and that the fund is too risky. The denial of the ETFs would then cause further fallout, creating a negative feedback loop.

Looking at the dates of previous cycles

Obviously, moral_agent's charts have lost predictive potential for absolute prices (not that I predicted absolute prices anyway). In terms of timing, however, which I've always considered as the most important indicator of those charts, we are actually pretty far along in this cycle if the high occurred earlier than expected in early June. If we overlay this cycle on top of the last cycle, we are already approaching the period where Mt Gox crashed. Time flies when we're having fun.
Supporting this idea that the change in fundamentals might have destroyed the lower boundary but not the periodicity of the chart, you can see that what is happening now is very similar to the downside of every bubble that came before: a stepladder pattern of a few days of low volatility followed by another crash.
I think that moral_agent has made a mistake in continuing to draw the chart by considering the present activity as part of the last cycle. If he drew the chart instead to indicate that the cycle ended months ago, then the usual downward spike to the absolute bottom would occur about 2 months from now, so there would be two months of this stepladder before the final fallout. Then there would be another month of stagnation like that which occurred in May, and the uptrend would begin during the holidays. If the shorter period of the last cycle indicated that cycle length is decreasing, then subtract a month from these figures.
Finally, despite much criticism, even after everything that is happening now, I still hold to the idea that news does not determine the cycle; fundamentals and sentiment do. You can see that there is loads of good news, and the price is freefalling. During downward cycles, people ignore the good news. Did you know that DiSH network bitcoin acceptance began today?

Ethereum posts budget

While I still disapprove of the way that Ethereum is holding huge portions of its coins for development activities, the developers did post a budget that goes far beyond what other projects in this area have been doing. They stated who they would be paying, for which services, and when. They also posted how many bitcoins they plan to save for future expenses. This is a laudable effort.
On the other hand, some of their spending is questionable. For example, they are spending huge sums of money on security deposits for three offices around the world. For an organization that doesn't have a product, the overhead of three separate offices seems a bit out of line. Blockchain.info pays all of their employees to work from home all around the world. If they have to have offices (which I've never found to increase productivity anyway), then I certainly don't know of any startup company that has more than one office.
Perhaps it might be useful to have multiple offices in the future if the organization needs to be located near a partner, but doing so adds a lot of overhead and travel expenses and requires personnel to manage all the extra physical property. This spending seems like a poor choice when the money could instead be used to hire people to accomplish Ethereum's objectives.

What happens if an altcoin exchange fails?

Yesterday, there was concern that Cryptsy wasn't responding to tickets, E-Mails, and calls. Fortunately, it appears as if the problem was due to poor customer service, rather than bankruptcy. However, I wondered what the ramnifications would be if an altcoin exchange like Cryptsy were to fail.
When Mt Gox failed, it was a one-off event. People lost money, but others could point to the event as not representative of the underlying technology. If an altcoin exchange were to fail, then a one-off event becomes a pattern. People could question if there is something unique to digital currency that causes such exchanges to be inherently more risky than forex exchanges. They, of course, would be right: you need trading partners with multinational corporations to get into forex, but it isn't possible to regulate the hundreds of decentralized altcoins.
An altcoin exchange failure would be catastrophic for additional reasons. First, each exchange has coins that aren't traded anywhere else, so if that exchange were to fail, then those coins would be worthless. Second, the news itself would probably crash the value of every coin by double digits across all the other exchanges too, destroying a lot of value from the economy.

I have a good friend who is a VP at your firm . They blamed the entire Financial crisis on ' poor people who could not afford their mortgages ' they said this was pretty much he opinion among the investment banks . How do you feel about what happened to Greece and Goldmans hand in it ? That is not true. Opinion is very much split within the investment banks and there is no right or wrong answer. I personally don't believe at all that the crisis was caused by 'poor people' - and I don't like that sort of categorization of people in the first place. There are perhaps 15/20 different institutions you could blame for the crisis, there's no way of isolating individuals. I'm not sure what exactly you think GS's hand in the Greece affair was. Of course it's a sad story and I feel remorseful - I recently donated £50,000 at a charity ball to help rebuild one of the islands which has almost been burned to the ground. But ultimately Greece employed GS at the time because they wanted to fudge their finances so as to meet entry requirements for the Euro i.e. the greek government was knowingly employing GS to help perform an extremely risky task - GS didn't force anything upon them. If the experiment explodes 10 years later (as it did), should GS really be the party to blame?
The next day, you are flipping through television channels and randomly come across a pre-season CFL game between the Toronto Argonauts and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Knowing your inevitable future, do you now watch it? Yes of course i fucking do. The future is inevitable. Chuck Klosterman i like your name.
I love seeing the ignorance that emerges in these AMA's relating to investment bankers. I am really interested in a career in either IB or Consulting, have a few questions for you. Thank you to fletch below for answering this question.
1) How did you cope with the hours? I like working hard, I like working for my money but I also like enjoying free time and having a social life. When working a 100 hours as an analyst that would certainly have to suffer 2)What were you academic results like through your degree? I'm currently in my second year and will be realistically looking at 2.2, 2.2, 2.1 and 2.1 (years 1-4). This summer I'd hope to get an accountancy internship in one of the big 4 followed by an internship next year in one of the large IBs. I know there's more to a candidate than solely their academic credentials + internship but would this stand me well for a BB in London? (Top Irish university, undergrad will be in Business and French) 3) What is it that makes you enjoy this job? I know the paycheck is certainly a bonus but you've said there's more to it than that? Whatever your breakdown between modules is, you need a 2.1 overall. Even if your average is 60% or 61%, that's enough to get you past the minimum requirements and through to interviews. After that it's up to you - they'll take someone with a good business mind and strong communications skills irrespective of whether they average 60 or 78 or 92. I disagree with him. My job is extremely rewarding and i wouldn't swap it for any other industry at the moment. If you want evidence of people enjoying their jobs look at the number of years they spend at their respective firms. Most of the partners at GS are 'home-grown' and have spent 20/30 years sweating away but don't regret it for a second.
Do you realize that in countries like Spain you're seen as an evil person that only wants to get profit and don't have any soul or feelings and probably kicks puppies for fun? If so, how do you feel about it? Yes and understand their anger but it should be re-directed to politicians!
Proof? and of course... how much did you make in 2012 approximately? Approx 600k. How do upload proof e.g. photo evidence?
Sorry, new to reddit!
Do you have free ticket for me? Always looking for handouts. What is it young people say, lolz??
I'm very curious of your opinion of Secretary Geithner's role in LIBOR. Do you think he was guilty? innocent? Thanks! LIBOR scandal is way too complicated to explain at 2.30 am after a few beers. Many active players are implicated and i think he will be seen in the wrong eventually like many others.
What hours do you work? Approx 80 hours a week not incl. flight time I go to festivals in Europe but would love to go it. Do you have free ticket for me?
If the concept and idea of a monetary system was replaced with something better (hypothetically) what would you do? As in for a career or what not since now you are jobless. Resources will always be scarce so someone will have to ensure an optimal allocation. There will always be a market of some kind whether it be a public market or an internal government one.
Hypothetically we could have unlimited power, molecular production, and master matteenergy conversion. Would that change your answer? Good interview question. I'll keep it in mind.
In your view, are there any regulations that could meaningfully alter the moral hazard typified by the 2008-2009 bailout of the financial sector? If so, what might they be? And if not, to what extent does regulatory capture play a role? Regulatory capture is a seriously problem not just in banking e.g. also in the energy business. How do you reduce it? It won't happen unless the public demand it, as everyone with power tends to benefit from it and so they won't make meaningful steps to change anything, i.e. its a win win situation for government and business. However it needs more than just 'occupy movements' but rather i am talking the mass voter population.
Have you seen @gselevator on twitter? if so have you ever contributed/is it legit? Haha yes i have seen it and no its not legit, well at least i think its not. Seriously though the elevator chats can be quite entertaining and revealing.
Do you use a mouse when you work on excel? Are you joking?
No.
In your opinion, do you think the money you make is worth the hell that you go through to make it? I love my job and so i am lucky that the money is not the only motivator.
But yes i love checking my bank balance at an atm.
How can i break into finance with a sub-par gpa? Network and try non BB firms.
A company founded by 100 duck sized horses. or A company founded by 1 horse sized duck? 100 duck sized horses every time. Basic risk management theory - don't put all your eggs in one basket. If that 1 horse sized duck isn't exceptional, your business is going down the tubes.
Prior to the collapse, did you have any idea what was about to happen? It was getting obvious that there was a bubble, but never predicted how great the fallout would be and that in 2013 we would still be suffering
What do you do day to day? I work in the energy field in Europe but don't want to get too specific. Day to day we advise natural resource companies on all things financial such as m&a and financing strategy and then execute on their behalf. So I am on the corporate finance side rather than sales and trading. However I work closely with the syndication and sales guys such as if we are executing an IPO or a follow-on share offering.
I have a buddy who's small but established clean tech company needs money building biodiesel manufacturing plants around the US that run off garbage and wood chips. The technology is actually coming from a company based in Sweden. Can you help him on the money side? Send me a link to their website.
I find clean tech very interesting.
How did you get your job? Did a summer internship then got FT conversion.
What college did you go to? I went to LSE (university in the UK)
What jobs did you work before getting this one? Did another internship whilst at university at an oil company.
At what age did you get this job? 22.
I hear the GS company culture is like " a frat on steriods" true or false? False more than true but depends on team.
Is it as cut throat as I have heard with the bottom 50% of people getting sacked each year to make way for new guys who will probably be sacked the year after? Bottom 5% is more accurate. 7-8% in a bad year, 3-4% in a good year. It's a fine line between 'cut throat' and having a 'healthy competitive atmosphere'. But we'd be out of business very quickly if we kept firing half of our staff every year...
Is there any stock I should look into in 2013? Long term or short term. Short term- African Barrick Gold. The chinese walked away and so the share price plunged and despite serious operational issues, the massive drop has presented a golden buying opportunity.
Long term- anything to avoid inflation, inflation scares the crap out of me and is going to be a big problem in the Uk and elsewhere in the future.
Also buy into soft commodity boom e.g. meat in africa, think zambeef etc if you can find an attractive entry point.
What's the best preparation for an interview with an i-bank? I'm over here in the states and come from a non-target. Read WSO, the forums are full of useful hints and tips especially for non target guys. Depending on what area you are applying for, make sure you know some really good examples and stock pitches as it is amazing how many candidates lack knowledge e.g. if applying for ECM for god sakes know some of the recent IPO's and likewise for equity research have good stock pitches and have conviction when presenting. Best of luck!
How important is your undergrad majogpa I'm double majoring in Econ/Conflict resolution studies with a possible minor in poly sci (depending on how the credits work out) I got a 3.9 gpa last semester but it only brought my overall gpa to a 2.4 because fuck klonopin. I should have at least a 3.0 by graduation, but I'm wondering its worth it to pay for and retake my first semester. Can I have $373 dollars? :D :D I promise only to get moderately drunk with this money. Sorry, a lot of questions, thanks for answering. Oh also, one last thing, all else being equal, is calc I enough math to apply for analyst job? or do I need more? Undergrad course choice is not that important for IBD but obviously for more quant roles you need maths skills Again i am sorry but i am not very clued up on GPA Ok i give you money but first you have to register yourself as a charity so that you can gift aid it and get much more!
Where did you go to college? LSE.
As an undergrad? How hard was it? I hear it's very difficult. Yes, undergrad.
Harder than most places depending on your course. Especially as you are competing with loads of kids from Asia who do extra calculus to relax.
How do you see regulation affecting the overall banking culture? Everything I have been reading and what people have been saying is that the culture is changing. Have you been seeing this? I recommend reading "The Culture of Success" by Lisa Endlich.
Also how do you like the goldman culture? Regulation is hurting us...but: Link to business.financialpost.com
How much total did you make in each of your years at the firm? I don't want to get into specifics.
But for your first three years as an analyst roughly 50k-70k (£ not $)
As an associate 120k-160k.
After that the numbers get exciting.
What tools do you use on a regular basis? Excel, Outlook, Excel, Outlook, Excel, Outlook...powerpoint.
What is the biggest reward of working in IB? Where I study, students with high grades are pushed to chase the prestigious internships firms like GS, MS, etc offer. Their reasoning why they chase these jobs is that they think it is the highest (prestige) in finance they can go or are attracted by the money. It seems shallow to me. What does IB offer that makes your career personally fulfilling? Why didn't you choose to work elsewhere? I find what i do at the front end of the energy sector fascinating. If your interested in business or globalisation or other similiar areas then IBD is pretty much at the cutting edge of it.
Thanks for the reply! When you were first starting out at GS, were you able to balance a personal life aside from your work? Has it gotten easier as you have gained more experience? Would you recommend IB as a field to pursue to your own children today? Thanks again! I'd say during my first 3 years as an analyst the 'balance' was almost non-existent i.e. i was regularly working 100+ hours/week. Since then it's become easier year by year and i think that's true for most. And yes certainly i would encourage my children to pursue it - not that i have any yet.
Where did you go to uni what was your gpa? how many physics majors work their? did you start off as an intern? sorry for rapid firing questions. LSE (london school of economics) - first class honours but don't know how that translates into GPA.
I know only 3/4 physics majors in the office at the moment.
Yes started as an intern.
Do banker run the world? how much political influence do they really have? It works two ways. Some bankers have their fingers in politics in a way they perhaps shouldn't. But equally many politicians have their fingers in banking and can force our hands.
How hard is it for a non ivy leager studying finance to get an entry level job at GS? what about internships? Tough. But with enough internship experience beforehand it's possible.
What do you think of Forex? Would you ever trade on it with your personal money? Difficult to answer - you can trade forex in a million different ways - some ways are more interesting than others. I don't personally trade it, but others forge a very successful career out of it.
What was your bets investment in? (If that's how it works) That's not really my role in IBD.
But outside GS I invested in the Shanghai property market a decade ago or so. My 4 flats there are now worth 10-12 times what they were worth then.
WTF caused the 2010 flash crash? Good question. Nobody knows for sure.
From the link you've provided, I find no.2 the most plausible explanation. But I would also add 6. UBS did something stupid again.
As hardcore capitalists what is your feeling about (management of) banks that seem to live under the impression that profits are for a happy few while losses should be carried by tax-payers? That's not what I believe at all.
And by the way all of us are tax payers too. The top 5% contribute approx. 50% of the government's taxation revenue. So if losses are being 'carried by tax-payers' - that doesn't exclude people in the banking industry by any means.
Matt Levin at Dealbreaker (former GS guy) describes Investment Bankers as "Travelling money salesmen". Do you feel that this description is apt? The operative word in your question is 'former'
Do you think that's how he described investment bankers whilst he was still with the firm?
People tend to get very bitter and sensitive after they get fired. See Gregg Smith for further evidence..
Is an MBA necessary to be competitive when looking for a job or is a B. Comm enough to compete with others when looking for jobs in the industry? Depends on what entry point - if you do an mba then you apply for associate entry whereas b.comm is an undergrad degree and so you apply for analyst roles. If you do a b.comm at a top university/college and get some internships then you should be well placed. Good luck!
Do any of your co-workers frequent Reddit? I imagine less than 0.1%.
Then again 2 people on this feed at least have claimed to be my co-workers, so who knows...
Since you're new to Reddit, what made you want to do an ama here? I'd like to alter the public perception of bankers - not all of us are the obnoxious greedy individuals you read about in the media.
I'm also extremely interested in hearing what non-finance people see as our key economic issues at the moment - this seemed a good way to find out.
Proof? How do i upload photos? i will upload photo proof. Sorry not very experienced with reddit!
I am a senior in high school and I am interested in majoring in either accounting or finance, but I don't think I know enough about either career path to make the best decision, can you explain the large differences the two paths I would go down depending on major, or any advice that may influence my decision that I would not know at this point? What you choose to study doesn't necessarily determine the industry you'll end up in. We have guys in the office who studied history, languages, even medicine. Just go for what interests you the most and focus on getting high marks.
Curious as to what kind of degree you hold/what was your GPA in college? BSc. Economics degree from LSE. First class honours, don't know about gpa
I used to work for the swiss banks and swiss stock market indirectly, and have a few friends in the banking business, including GS and Nakamura in London. What is your personall opinion on prostitution, cocaine, and medication misusage in your business? Also, also what is your stance on GS' questionable involvment in Backpage.com? With regards to backpage.com, the guys on the deal did not do their KYC checks properly. KYC checks are crucial for banks- your reputation and future success is more important than any single customer. Look up riggs bank and the Obiang family and then you'll see!
Possible. But realistically those kind of excuses are given no matter what really happened. For a company as big and powerful as GS I can only take it with a grain of salt. Are you content in the way GS does business from a moral point of view? It's either a pinch of salt, or a grain of sand...
Thanks. I'm not a native english speaker and have not used it regularly for years, so it's gotten pretty shit. Any chance you answer the other questions? Yes, apologies. I think some of our deals have been morally reprehensible in the past. The same goes for any major investment bank. But i think we've done a very good job in 'cleaning up our act' over the past few years and the public has played a large part in that. With any luck we will see a much healthier banking industry soon.
How accurate is what is said on the Twitter handle @GSElevator? It's grossly exaggerated, but not entirely inaccurate...
You guys got trolled hard. A GS IBD guy not knowing how to upload something to the internet? Seriously wtf. Probably some guy from wso who wanted to feel like he was "in". Link to i.imgur.com Just doing some work now! Link to i.imgur.com In case you wondered what Lloyd's signature looked like.
Is there anyway you can help me out, connections or anything, someone I should talk to to get a interview? Can you interview me, I shall forward you my resume! Private message me and we will discuss. Sure i can help you out. I know how tough it is for you guys who are trying to get in!
Any thoughts on the MSI/SSG mini-scandal this week? Yes but won't comment.
Very hush hush.
I also work for GS. Which building are you in? I'm based in PBC. Also IBD, North. Would do an AMA and provide proof. I'm in PBC too, moved from RC quite a few years ago. I'm not sure exactly what sort of proof i'm supposed to provide...?
Would you say you were groomed for this kind of work from a young age? LSE is an elite school. Did you go to elite private schools growing up or were you an exceptional student at a normal school? Yes, Jimmy groomed me from four years old
Do you like your job, or should i say career? Yes. If i did not then i would go and sail around the world again.
From your experience, how relevant is CFA nowdays? Definitely worth doing.
How large was your Xmas bonus and did it get taxed over 50%? See below - total comp was c.600k and yes taxed above 50%
You said in other replies that you were 22 when you got this job and make 600K now. How old are you now, and how long did it take you to get the that salary level? Is it all commission? Was analyst at 22 and then moved up the ranks. Just turned 30, feeling old now!.
Can you give some insight on the business model of Investment banking? (I have no clue to be honest) . And what does a portfolio manager do exactly? Portfolio manager is not IBD. He/she would work in investment management e.g. for blackrock or GSAM or a hedge fund.
I'm currently writing a thesis on the future of rentierism in the gulf with an emphasis on Saudi Arabia. I don't have much of an economic background apart from this, but the international energy market is obviously important to my research. Can you recommend any good (preferably free or low cost) primers and newsletters on the subject? Hmm there are many on energy market but not too sure about rentier specific ones. Will have a think. I did my university thesis on Saudi and so will have a dig around.
How do you live with yourself? Knowing that the company that you work for doesn't give a fuck about you or anybody. All they care about is money. They have ruined america many times over. Seriously, how do you live with yourself? Actually our business is dependent on America and more importantly the rest of the world's prosperity. So actually our interests are nicely aligned.
Link to www.rollingstone.com. Seems to me like your bosses and former bosses don't give a flying fuck about anyone but themselves. Can you name one good thing Sachs has done since you have been there? I think you meant 'don't give a flying fuck" in your comment.
Do you happen to work with quantitative analysts? Depends which deal we are working on. Sometimes we need them, other times we don't.
What's your retirement savings invested in? Property (international and uk), shares mainly through tax efficient ways e.g. isa and EIS, pensions and artwork.
No swiss bank account i am afraid.
"The first thing you'll realize is that they are extremely disciplined. You would never come across a Goldman employee, who would, after two or three beers, say "My colleagues are a bunch of dickheads" From Money and Power William D Cohan. What do you have to say about this? I agree with it.
What advice would you give someone who is interested in going into finance and is currently in university. What would you have liked to do in your time spent at LSE now looking back? Party more! You only live once. You can have that advice for free.
Thanks for the AMA. Do you know anybody I could speak with regarding interviewing and internship opportunities? Private message me.
Doing an AMAA are you putting your job at risk for releasing company secrets/opinions whatever? I've not released a single company secret.
Edit: added an A to AMA. There's nothing in my contract to say I can't express my own opinions.
What do the hopes and dreams of Americans taste like? Raspberry sorbet, in my opinion
What is your feeling on the separation of traditional banking and investment banking as is proposed by the FSA? I think overall it's sensible - Barclays being the best example of why they should be separated.
At GS specifically of course we're not involved in traditional retail banking at all so it's not the most pressing issue for us at the moment.
You mentioned 80 hour work weeks. Could you explain the timeline for your typical work day. Do you work 7 days per week? Is your work more project based where you go non stop and have some time off between projects? There's no typical working day - some days are 18 hours and others are 12. Depends entirely what stage of a deal we are at. Generally I work 5/6 days a week, but keep in email contact with the office 24/7.
Yes, entirely project based. But if we are doing our jobs properly there's not much 'time off' in between.
I'm currently on target for a 2:1 or a first at university in my economics degree. But due to a slight hiccup in my a-levels, in which i got A* A C, still managed to go to a top 10 university but do they look at the C, which was in maths. Your university grades are definitely more important. If you do well in a mathematical module at uni that will allay any fears they have about an A-level grade.
Do they look at a-level grades and expect a minimum maths grade? I'm not bad at maths by any means, just an unfortunate anomaly in the exam season. Which uni are you at and what do you study?
Manchester and economics BA - but i have econometric modules and another mathematical module for 2nd year. Any chance of switching it to a BSc? Immediately reassures employers about your quantitative skills..
Hello there, first of all I want to thank you for doing this AMA. I am a dutch college student and currently I'm writing an essay about the BRIC countries. I used your book to write down predictions of their economic future, and I'd like to ask: did you participate in writing that book? Are you referring to Jim O'Neill's book? I have a copy on my desk, but no I wasn't involved in writing it.
What do the guys at GS think about @gselevator? See same q&a earlier on!
How often do interns get recommended to come back? In a good year, approx. 50% of an intern class will get hired.
In a bad year (2008 for example) perhaps only 10% or 20%
Any opinion on Nautilus Minerals? Can't comment on that company i am afraid.
How do you feel about manipulating the currency markets to screw over the average retail trader? I don't know what you are talking about.
Have you ever seen American Psycho? Yes.
I am going to copy and paste this in an email and send it around my team. You will famous at the firm, well at least in my team in london anyway! Yes of course i fucking do. The future is inevitable. Chuck Klosterman i like your name. That would also be an awesome interview question! And i give them 5 secs to answer.
I highly doubt GS interns work for free. I've almost never heard of an internship in finance that didn't pay -- most firms I've encountered usually pay the same base wage as the first year full timer positions you are interning for. Interns in front office at GS in london get circa £42k pro rata. So not bad for a summer job and remember no tax as they are below threshold across the year!
Gold Mansachs. Not sure about that one.
I prefer Goldman Snachs, the name of our canteen.
Yes, Jimmy groomed me from four years old But yes went to a private boarding school before. Widening the diversity of applicants in IB is a key target for HCM.
What is the future of investment banking in a new world order where both governments and the people are fed up with the excesses that led us into this credit crisis. The industry is always evolving, that's what makes it an exciting industry to be in. I imagine it will take us a good few years to fully regain the trust of certain clients, but ultimately if this whole saga causes us to readdress our methods and practices to improve our service then in the long run it's a positive outcome.
PS. Do you not think people should be fed up with the governments too, as well as the banks?
Not OP but I can answer this as a 2012 intern who got converted for Programming. A Math degree is a good +. There are 2 ways. Either join in as a programmer, show your merit and change departments, ie move to Quant side. Other option is to get a MBA, and join the I-Banking dept you want. What's your name?
Do you have any books or resources you'd recommend the layman for learning investment skills (i.e. the wealthy barber) I ask because i feel there is a lot of crap out there and would like to genuinely learn. I have never heard of the wealthy barber.
